We are writing to thank you for the magnificent job Elizabeth Shutters performed in fabricating and installing plantation shutters throughout our house. We had numerous companies provide us with details and estimates to place shutters in our home. All of the companies were professional in their delivery of information and giving us an estimate of the cost.
Though your company were not the least or most expensive, we decided to use Elizabeth Shutters because we felt that your presentation, your expertise of the product, as well as what we would get for the money was superior to the other companies to whom we had spoken. You spent a great deal of time educating us on what you felt would be our best choice of materials, design and installation options. Subsequently, you measured each of 30 different windows, and made a detailed and precise diagram of each window on graph paper. Eight weeks later when the shutters were installed, they were exactly what we anticipated and they fit with precision.

It takes about three or four years, in my experience, to develop a decorating team. Once you've got the right painter/colorist, tile guy, flooring guru, carpenter/cabinet perfectionist and plantation shutters jockey you're pretty much set - or at least you can get started.
Like everyone else starting out in Design, my first instincts were to be cheap. Experiencing cheap, I then flipped and decided to spend whatever it took. Regretfully, those early flagellations were wasted.
There's a lot of ways to cut corners, but when it comes to hard surfaces the cheap stuff always looks cheap and, ultimately the clients notice. Worse, the extra time managing poor workmanship, shoddy installation and, my pet peeve, people who don't clean up after themselves made this a losing proposition.
At the high end, I was quickly and highly disappointed. I still can't figure out what they can't figure out, but I'm damn sure I'm not going to pay for it any more. This happened with almost every sub-specialty until I finally lucked into my go to carpenter/cabinet guy (see separate review for Craig Vincent) and he knew just about everybody else worth knowing.
I didn't used to do a lot of plantation shutters - preferring drapes or shades or bare windows for most applications. But a desert customer with a $1 million renovation "knew what she wanted" and both Craig and my tile guy pointed me to these shutters guys, and life has been good, since.
Eleven projects later and we're still going strong. There's been a hiccup or two, but not one disappointment.
Kenny, a man who is to large what Pavarotti is to tenors, showed up to install the French Doors shutters and others covering over-sized plate glass windows. Kenny can carry a 3' x 6' shutter in one hand, a ladder in the other and whistle a happy tune - while I require two hands per panel and significant grunting. Besides being bigger and stronger than most draft horses, Kenny is an artist of installation. The shutters went up, the caulking went in, the touch up paint went on and the next thing we knew he was vacuuming and the homeowner and I were smiling. Next! — Link Fulmer

We are new customers of Elizabeth Shutters. We are very pleased with the shutters — they are gorgeous! Better than what we expected. We can't wait to do the rest of the house. I tend to over-analyze things; so before we bought, we got lots of bids from all the shutter companies we could find. For us, this was a huge project; so we wanted our dollar to be spent wisely. My recommendation is DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Before long we started to see a lot of difference in the way the companies function. Some looked like they were spending loads of money on advertising and that factored into their prices being extremely high. Some pitched extreme discounts but if you looked beneath the surface, it became obvious they were only PRETENDING to be the manufacturer; but really were only middle men buying at wholesale and installing the shutters themselves (buyer beware!) How good can their warranty be in years to come? Our experience with Elizabeth Shutters was really good. Starting with the sales rep all the way to the installers, we were pleased with the professionalism of each employee. We did not feel overly pressured by sales techniques. He was very knowledgeable and explained everything in detail. He has worked for them for over a dozen years; so that signaled stability. After they were put in, he called to see how things went. I got three estimates for the first floor - you were cheaper than one and about the same as the other, but the sales guy knew what he was talking about so I went with him. My neighbors paid more, but got a lot less from Home Depot. My paint is beautiful, the construction is rock-solid and the fit is like a Lexus. By comparison, the neighbor's is like a rusty old Chevy. Three years ago my family and I went to Elizabeth Shutters to see about buying shutters for our hotels. We were refurbishing existing properties and wanted everything upgraded. The shutters had to be attractive, durable and cheap. We were very concerned about upkeep and repair costs because guests can be hard on room furnishings and we can't maintain them here.
We visited about a dozen shutter manufacturers to see what everyone had. Everyone but Elizabeth Shutters told us they could do the job as specified and gave us a quote. Elizabeth Shutters did not give us a quote. They sent us away saying that we would not be happy with the product we wanted because it would fail in our application. This did not bother me and I chose a small shutter manufacturer to build and install my shutters at a very good price. My brother decided to wait.
Two years later I wished I had listened to my brother. The shutters fell apart like Elizabeth Shutters predicted, they were very expensive to maintain, and that other company is out of the hotel business. They were a big mistake. Since then I paid Elizabeth Shutters to make shutters for my whole lobby and they are replacing the first ones. I wouldn't consider buying shutters again unless they were Elizabeth Shutters. We had another company in to do some simple windows and the quality was not good. Elizabeth Shutters re-made the shutters using wood (Basswood, I think). All of the joints were straight, the slats blocked out the light and the paint was beautiful. When it came time to do the sliding door shutters and bi-fold shutters along with the closet doors and bay windows, of course we went with plantation shutters from Elizabeth. In our search for window coverings we made the usual contacts but found nothing to our satisfaction in terms of product, cost or delivery time. Then in walking around our Westchester neighborhood we noticed a house completely outfitted with shutters. Last month, I saw an ad in the newspaper for Elizabeth Shutters, so I decided to call and arrange to have an estimate. The estimate was for our bedroom windows (3) and a French door. I also called two other manufacturers.
After speaking on the phone with your representative, Clarice, I realized that I really didn't need to continue my search. Her professionalism and her demeanor came through loud and clear. I just have to tell you what a delightful sales and design staff you have. It was such a pleasure getting their suggestions and help with my selection.
I had two other estimates. The first was a company who make their products here in the desert. He brought a sample and was very nice but lacked that special something that made me feel comfortable with what was offered. The other one also makes their own here in this desert. She came out but left her smile at the office and no samples but a couple of pictures. It was impossible to understand exactly what her suggestion was and I felt left up in midair from her lack of enthusiasm. Perhaps my home was not that important since there are so many other high-end homes here.
On the other side of the coin, there was your staff. They arrived with beautiful smiles and from then on, I had a complete lesson about shutters.
